2010 Whale Reports

The whales are currently on their northern migration up the eastern coast boarder of Australia and our tours will be commencing on Saturday the 26th June!

Did you see the humpbacks “mugging the boat” and “spy-hopping”?

Mugging the boat is where a whale swims up to the boat and stays with it, performing their magic moves – breaching, tail slapping, pec-slapping, peduncle throwing, round-out diving and spy-hopping.

Spy-hopping is where the whale comes right up out of the water in a vertical 90 degree angle – head in the air and tail down. Due to the sheer enormity of their weight, the humpbacks can only hold this position for about 3 seconds.

2009 Whale Reports

The Whales have been nothing short of spectacular.  Putting on a show for all to enjoy, pods of whales have been sighted daily....with up to 15 humpbacks sighted on most days this month!!  There is plenty of action including mugging of the boat, breaching, tail slaps and spy hopping. We even had one male up against the hull of the boat, upside down showing off his tummy doing massive big tail slaps - plenty of pectoral waves welcoming the start of Season 2009.

Despite the weather putting us out of action for a few days in July, the clear crisp sunny Winter skies returned and provided an amazing back drop for the whale action. Guests were treated to some massive spy hops and over 70 breaches on Thursday 3rd July - unbelievable!!!

The whales have been relishing in the warm waters of Moreton Bay Marine Park, and so too have our guests enjoyed the sunshine and glass out days on the bay.  Daily sightings with plenty more action happening both on and off the boat.
